Every year from September to March wild dolphins are herded into a cove in the town of Taiji, Japan. The best looking are sold to marine parks around the world, and the rest are brutally killed. The water turns red with blood.
In a few short weeks, the blood bath is due to begin again. But 2018 might be the year the hunts finally come to an end.
Help ramp up the pressure – add your voice to the petition here:
As the hunts continue, it may seem as though there is no end to the cruelty. However, according to Ceta- Base, an online database recording statistics from the hunts, the number of dolphins being killed is going down.
And that’s not the only good news. In 2015 AFD launched legal action arguing the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) should stop endorsing it’s members involved in purchasing dolphins from the hunts. Within a month the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) agreed to stop 62 Japanese aquariums purchasing dolphins captured in Taiji.
It is more vital than ever to keep up momentum. Please sign the petition to bring an end to this cruelty:

In 2017 AFD’s lawyers launched a world-first Freedom of Information request, gaining access to never-been-seen-before documents. Since then we have been working against the clock to use this information in a bold new legal action to stop the hunts, which we hope to bring as soon as possible.
This dynamic new legal action comes off the back of a concerted campaign to expose the Taiji dolphin hunts to Japanese people. In 2017 AFD was incredibly excited to launch the first ever billboards showing graphic footage of the hunts in Japan. The ads, funded by kind AFD supporters like you, played to hundreds of thousands of people above a busy intersection in Osaka, AND in Tokyo city – exposing many Japanese people to the truth for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who has fought to protect dolphins. Because of you, we are making progress. But dolphins still need your help to keep up the pressure.
