Thanks to Lush Cosmetics Australia and amazing dolphin defenders, a GIANT billboard with anti-shark net messaging drove around the Sunshine Coast for ten days last month.

The billboard got a lot of attention, and AFD was interviewed by Noosa News. Articles also appeared in the Sunshine Coast Daily and Queensland Times.

Thank you to everyone who chipped in to help spread the word about these destructive nets.

Our team also met with the Mayor of Noosa, the Noosa Member of Parliament, and local groups. We let them know the high level of by-catch in Noosa’s nets is unacceptable.

These face-to-face meetings are vital. Sandy Bolton, the state member for Noosa, asked a question regarding trialling non-lethal alternatives to shark nets in Parliament. You can read the minutes from the meeting here

This coincided with the delivery of our open letter to Mark Furner, the man in charge of deciding whether the nets are removed.

These are positive developments, and we plan to keep the pressure on decision makers.

The majority of people we surveyed in Noosa were not aware of the number of marine animals caught and killed by Noosa’s shark control program. Your billboard helped spread the word.

Help keep up momentum by signing and sharing the petition calling for the removal of these cruel and ineffective nets.
